Blackberry Storm 3 - How Good Is It?

Customers even only slightly familiar with smartphones no doubt recognize the Blackberry. Research in Motion set the bar quite high with its original version and has continued to blaze the smartphone trail with each subsequent version of the Blackberry Storm. The Blackberry Storm 3 picks up directly after the Storm 2 and freshens it up to counter the iPhones continued popularity.

Early indications show that the Blackberry Storm 3 has stuck with the tried and true formula of the Storm 2. A completely touch version of a QWERTY keyboard is found on the Storm 3 and it seems to be not only sensitive but accurate. This should allay the fears of people who want to make the switch from the somewhat fragile sliding versions but are worried about errant key stroke reading. The actual screen on the handset is a 3.7 AMOLED capacitive touch screen. This is more than roomy enough for items to show up clearly.

A customized version of Blackberry OS 6.0 powers the Storm 3. The OS should still be quite familiar to customers, and RIMs Webkit accommodates web browsing. It seems that major improvements have been made over the previous version. People with a nice collection of photos and videos will appreciate the 8 or 16 GB of storage. Of course, you wont be able to store every single episode of The Simpsons on there, but it is a cell phone after all. Memory can be improved to 1GB RAM and 1GB ROM. The Storm 3 provides a 5 megapixel camera with 2592 x 1944 pixel resolution.

Also giving Storm 3 an advantage over the competition is the fact that it is a World Edition cell phone. The handset picks up 3G at hotspots with HSDPA at 10.2 Mbps. Blackberry Storm 3 connects via 802.11n WiFi. Bluetooth version 3.0 is found on the phone as is a Li-Ion battery. The battery offers about 9 hours of standby time while in 2G mode and approximately 5 hours while in 3G. For those looking for a couple of bells and whistles, a large number of ringtones in MP3 and WAV formats can be stored on the Storm 3.

With the Blackberry Storm 3, RIM has updated their own product to a model that competes easily with its contemporaries. It provides all of the features and functionality that users have come to expect from a smartphone and does so with sleek and smooth operation. RIM continues to not only keep up with the Joneses, so to speak, they set the standard as well.
